Etymology: < Anglo-Norman viscous (Gower), or < Latin viscōsus (compare viscose adj.), < viscum (also viscus) mistletoe, birdlime made from mistletoe-berries. Compare French visqueux, Italian viscoso, Spanish viscoso, Portuguese viscoso.
