1916 Mineral. Mag. 17 353 Lechatelierite, naturally occurring fused (amorphous) silica.
1928 Amer. Mineralogist 13 77 Lechateliérite is unique in that it is the only naturally occurring glass that is definite enough to be considered a mineral.
1931 Jrnl. Royal Soc. W. Austral. 17 146 Digging revealed a vertical core of lechatelierite in the soil. This core was hollow and very brittle, and extended downwards for about a metre.
1963 W. A. Deer et al. Rock-forming Minerals IV. 180 Silica glass (vitreous silica; lechatelierite): can exist at room temperatures and up to 1000°C... It is an unstable glass at all temperatures below 1713°C.
1964 New Scientist 16 Jan. 160/1 The invariable signs of flow and common presence of lechatelierite (pure silica glass) indicate that tektites were formed by rapid fusion at very high temperatures.
