单词 trainband
释义

trainbandn.

Brit. /ˈtreɪnband/, U.S. /ˈtreɪnˌbænd/
Forms:

α. 1600s taryneband, 1600s traineband, 1600s trayneband, 1600s– trainband.

β. 1600s trainbound.

Origin: Apparently a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: trained band at trained adj.1 1a(a).
Etymology: Alteration, apparently after train v.1, of trained band at trained adj.1 1a(a). In some instances perhaps taken as showing train n.2 as first element, on the assumption that the soldiers belonged to a train (train n.2 8) or retinue. Compare slightly later trainman n.1, train soldier n.1The β. forms (compare quot. 1643 at Compounds) probably result from contextual reanalysis of the second element as showing bound adj.2
Now historical.
