Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek -τελεσις.
Etymology: < ancient Greek -τελεσις (only attested in compounds, e.g. ἐπιτέλεσις completion, Hellenistic Greek ἀποτέλεσις production) < τελεῖν to finish, complete (see telesm n.) + -σις -sis suffix.
Originally and chiefly Sociology.
Intelligent direction of effort towards the achievement of a goal or end.
