Etymology: Afrikaans, < Dutch skaap sheep + steker stinger.
A venomous but usually harmless snake of the genus Psammophylax, esp. the spotted skaapsteker, P. rhombeatus, or the striped skaapsteker, P. tritæniatus, which are both greyish-brown with darker markings.
