Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin simositas.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin simositas crookedness of the nose (17th cent. in Latin-English dictionaries; 12th or 13th cent. as simocitas ) < classical Latin sīmus snub-nosed (see simous adj.) + -ōsitās -osity suffix; compare -ity suffix.Post-classical Latin simosus (adjective) is apparently not attested.
Obsolete. rare.
The quality or fact of being snub-nosed.The different meaning given in quot. 1721 is otherwise unattested.
