Etymology: < scientific Latin Scindapsus, genus name ( H. W. Schott Meletemata botanica (1832) 21) < ancient Greek σκινδαψός , name of a plant resembling ivy (see scindapse n.).

Any of several tropical plants belonging or formerly belonging to the genus Scindapsus (family Araceae), comprising epiphytic climbers native to South-East Asia; esp. any of numerous cultivated varieties of the devil's ivy, Epipremnum aureum (formerly S. aureus) and of S. pictus, widely grown as house plants for their (often variegated) foliage. Also (with capital initial): the genus itself.Cf. Pothos n., the former name of the genus Scindapsus.
