释义

revindicatev.

Brit. /ˌriːˈvɪndᵻkeɪt/, U.S. /riˈvɪndəˌkeɪt/
Forms: see re- prefix and vindicate v.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; probably partly modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: re- prefix, vindicate v.
Etymology: < re- prefix + vindicate v.; in sense ‘to restore or reclaim as a rightful possession’ probably after French revendiquer (see revendicate v.). Compare post-classical Latin revindicare to revenge (6th cent.), and also Portuguese reivindicar (1660; 1446 as revindicar ), Italian rivendicare (14th cent.; also †revendicare ). Compare later revindication n., revendicate v.
transitive. To vindicate again (in various senses); to restore or reclaim as a rightful possession; to show again to be right or justified.
