Etymology: < post-classical Latin rectus in curia, literally ‘right in court’ (from early 12th cent. in British sources) < classical Latin rectus right (see rect adj.) + in (see in prep.) + cūriā , ablative of cūria , in post-classical Latin sense ‘court’ (see curia n.).In form rectum in curia (see quot. 1699) after classical Latin rectum, accusative of rectus. Compare:a1118 Leges Hen. I lv. §1 in L. J. Downer Leges Henrici Primi (1972) 172 Omni domino licet submonere hominem suum ut ei sit ad rectum in curia sua.1583 Sir T.
