C. Ullmann in J. F. L. Hausmann Handb. der Mineral. (1813) I. 268) < German pyro- pyro- comb. form + Siderit siderite n.¹ N.E.D. (1909) gives the pronunciation of the latter element as (səidī^ərəit) /saɪˈdɪəraɪt/, (si·dĕrəit) /ˈsɪdəraɪt/.

A mineral formerly identified with goethite, and later with lepidocrocite (cf. lepidocrocite n. at lepido- comb. form ).
