单词 puttanesca
释义

puttanescan.

Brit. /ˌpʊtəˈnɛskə/, U.S. /ˌpʊtəˈnɛskə/
Forms: 1900s– putanesca (irregular), 1900s– puttanesca.
Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian puttanesca.
Etymology: < Italian puttanesca (1961 or earlier in alla puttanesca < alla in the style of + puttanesca , feminine of an adjective puttanesco , apparently showing a specific use of puttanesco of, relating to, or characteristic of a prostitute (a1380; < puttana prostitute (see putain n.) + -esco -esque suffix), although the semantic motivation is unclear).Other origins for puttanesco in the name of this dish have been suggested, such as derivation from a proper name; however, lexicographers of Italian generally assume that it is the same word as puttanesco of, relating to, or characteristic of a prostitute. There is apparently no further support for the suggestion made in quot. 1967.
In Italian cookery: a type of tomato sauce flavoured with pungent ingredients, traditionally including garlic, olives, capers, and anchovies, and generally served with pasta. Chiefly attributive or as postmodifier.
