Etymology: < pruss- (in Prussian adj.) + -ine suffix5, so called because it was originally derived from Prussian blue (see Prussian blue n.).

= cyanogen n. Also: (Thomas Graham's name for) a polymeric cyanide radical supposedly present in ferro- and ferricyanides.
