Chemistry. Now rare.
A ptomaine having physiological effects (supposedly) resembling those of atropine.

1891 V. C. Vaughan & F. G. Novy Ptomaïnes, Leucomaïnes, & Bacterial Proteids (ed. 2) x. 179 Selmi found ptomatropines which with sulphuric acid and oxidizing agents did give the blossom odor as distinctly as the vegetable atropine.
1908 Science 7 Feb. 222/2 The toxin from infected sausages produces symptoms much like those of atropin poisoning, and has therefore been called ‘ptomatropin’.
