Origin: From a proper name, combined with an English element; perhaps modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: proper name Praxeas , -an suffix.
Etymology: < the name of Praxeas (post-classical Latin Praxeas) (c200 a.d.), a theologian of Asiatic origin + -an suffix, perhaps after post-classical Latin Praxeanus (noun) (early 3rd cent. in Tertullian; also as Praxianus (4th cent.)).
Church History.

A follower of the teachings associated with Praxeas, who (according to Tertullian) denied the Trinity and espoused a form of Monarchianism (see the etymological note at Monarchian n. and adj.). Now rare.
