Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Or (ii) formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin Pedimana , -ous suffix; pedimane n., -ous suffix.
Etymology: Either < scientific Latin Pedimana, Pedimani, Pedimanes (see pedimane n.) + -ous suffix, or < pedimane n. + -ous suffix. Compare earlier bimanous adj. and later quadrumanous adj., also longimanous adj. N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation as (pĭdi·mănəs) /pɪˈdɪmənəs/.
Zoology. Obsolete.
Designating or relating to mammals whose feet (esp. hind feet) resemble hands in having an opposable digit. Cf. pedimane n.
