Etymology: Alteration of perfumer n.2, after Middle French parfumier (1562 in the passage translated in quot. 1601; < parfum perfume n. + -ier -ier suffix). Compare Italian profumiere (1550 in this sense; now only in sense ‘maker or seller of perfumes’: see perfumer n.1).

Etymology: Apparently < perfume n. + -ier suffix. Compare Middle French, French †parfumier (1574 in sense ‘producer or seller of perfumes’; compare parfumier n.), Italian profumiere (1542 in this sense). Compare earlier perfumer n.1, perfumist n., and later parfumier n.
