Etymology: < post-classical Latin parasyntheton (4th cent.) or its etymon Hellenistic Greek παρασύνθετον, use as noun of neuter singular of παρασύνθετος formed from a compound (see parasynthetic adj. and n.). Compare German Parasyntheton (F. Diez Grammatik der romanischen Sprachen (ed. 3, 1871) II. 419), French parasyntheton (1874 in a translation of Diez).Compare Choeroboscus Prolegomena in Theodosii Alexandrini Canones 10. 15 in Grammatici Graeci 4.2 Παρασύνθετον δὲ τὸ ἀπὸ συνθέτου παραγόμενον, ὡς ἀπὸ τοῦ Ἀντίγονος συνθέτου γίνεται τὸ ἀντιγονίζω παρασύνθετον, a parasyntheton is a derivative of a compound, e.g. from the compound Antigonos is formed the parasyntheton Antigonize.
