Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Partly formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: Latin panarmonia ; pan- comb. form, harmony n.
Etymology: Originally < post-classical Latin panarmonia (1645 in the passage translated in quot. 1651) < pan- pan- comb. form + classical Latin harmonia harmony n., after ancient Greek παναρμόνιος all-harmonious; in later use re-formed < pan- comb. form + harmony n. Compare French panharmonie (1837 or earlier in a musical sense). Compare panharmonic adj.
rare (chiefly Philosophy).
