Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian pandoro.
Etymology: < Italian pandoro (1927 in this sense; 1314 as pan d'oro ), literally ‘golden bread’ < pane bread (see panettone n.) + de de prep. + oro gold (see or n.1).
A type of Italian cake, originating in Verona, similar to panettone but without dried fruit, golden in colour, and eaten especially at Christmas.
