Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Odontocete.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Odontocete (plural), former suborder name (W. H. Flower 1864, in Proc. Zool. Soc. 388; later Odontoceti : compare Odontoceti n.) < ancient Greek ὀδοντο- odonto- comb. form + κῆτος whale, large fish (see cet- comb. form).
