A member of a conservative Sikh movement of South Asia, characterized by its strict adherence to fundamentalist Sikh values; (in early use) spec. a member of an order of militant Sikh ascetics, originally formed in the 17th cent. to oppose advances by Muslims into Sikh areas of the Punjab.
