Etymology: < Hawaiian muʽumuʽu.In Hawaii the word has four syllables.
A woman's loose-fitting dress, usually patterned and brightly coloured, a local adaptation of the ‘Mother Hubbard’ dress introduced by missionaries in Hawaii. Later also: a garment resembling this. Cf. holoku n.
