释义 | madriern. Military. A thick wooden plank used as a support in fortification work, or with a petard to breach a gate, etc. ΚΠ 1704 J. Harris Lexicon Technicum I Madrier, in Fortification, is a thick Plank arm'd with Plates of Iron, and having a Concavity sufficient to receive the Mouth of the Petard when charged, with which it is applied against a Gate, or any thing else that you design to break down. This term is also appropriated to certain flat Beams, which are fix'd at the bottom of a Moat, to support a Wall. There are also Madriers lined with Tin, which are cover'd with Earth, to serve as a Defence against Artificial Fires. 1758 J. Watson Mil. Dict. (ed. 5) . 1826 W.
