Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish maguey.
Etymology: < Spanish maguey (1515) < Taino maguey . The post-classical Latin work translated in quot. 1555 at sense 1 has Maguéiorum (genitive plural).
1. Any of several giant, fleshy-leaved agaves of Mexico and the south-western United States; esp. the American aloe, Agave americana. Frequently attributive, esp. in maguey plant.
