Any of the various trees and shrubs called ‘lotus’; esp. (b) the shrubby tree producing the fruit of Greek mythology, and the jujube tree Ziziphus lotus with which this is usually identified (cf. lotus n. 2, 7; = lote-tree n. 2); (a) a nettle tree, esp. Celtis australis (cf. lotus n. 3 and lote-tree n. 1).
