Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French paravent.
Etymology: < French paravent (1599 in Middle French as paravant ) < Italian paravento (1550) < para- para- prefix2 + vento wind (see vent n.2).
Chiefly in France or in French contexts: something, esp. a screen, that provides protection against the wind; (hence in extended use) a dividing screen or partition.
