Etymology: < late or medieval Latin indistāns, indistāntem, translating Greek ἀδιάστατος : see in- prefix4 and distant adj. and n.In Latin the adverb indistānter occurs in Priscian and Ammianus; the adjective indistāns (with the noun indistāntia) in a 13th cent. grammarian quoted in Thurot Doctrines grammaticales du moyen âge, 187, and in William of Moerbeka's translation of Proclus De decem dubitat. (col. 85, Cousin), and Ficinus' translation of Plotinus (ed. Oxon. I. 88). (Prof. I. Bywater.)
