Etymology: < post-classical Latin humaniformianus (6th cent.) < classical Latin hūmānus human adj. + forma form n. + -iānus -ian suffix, after Byzantine Greek ἀνθρωπομορϕιανός (5th cent.). Compare post-classical Latin humaniformis (9th cent.), humaniformius (12th cent.), both in sense ‘anthropomorphite’. Compare anthropomorphite n. Compare later humaniform adj.The humaniformians were disciples of Anthony, an Egyptian, who, contrary to Origen, accepted literally the scriptural references to the eyes and ears of God.
Obsolete.
A person who attributes human form to God, an anthropomorphite.
