Forms: Also Middle English husk(e; 1800s hurse.
Etymology: Derivation unascertained: the change of husk to huss appears to be as in Scots busk, buss, etc.
The dogfish, the skin of which was much used by fletchers for smoothing and polishing arrows; the lesser or greater spotted dogfish, Scyliorhinus caniculus or S. stellaris. Also attributive, as huss skin (huskyn, hurse-skin).
