Etymology: < medieval Latin homologātiōn-em, noun of action < homologāre (see homologate v.). Compare French homologation (16th cent.).
Chiefly Scottish.
The action of homologating; assent, ratification, confirmation. Mostly in legal use; spec. in Scots Law (see homologate v. 1b).

Homologation, is a technical expression, signifying an act by which a person approves of a deed; the effect of such approbatory act, being to render that deed, though itself defective, binding upon the person by whom it is homologated. All deeds, informal or defective, may be homologated.
