grrrint.n.

Brit. /ɡrː/, U.S. /ɡrː/; see also note (below)
Forms: 1800s– grr, 1800s– grrr, 1800s– grrrr. Forms with r occurring five or more times are also occasionally attested.
Origin: An imitative or expressive formation. Etymon: gurr n.
Etymology: Imitative. Compare gurr n.Since the word is an attempt to represent in spelling what is essentially an inarticulate sound broadly imitative of an animal's growl, it is impossible to know with any certainty what sound any given writer is trying to portray. Forms with r occurring a larger number of times are usually used to represent a longer or more fierce growling sound.
A. int.
Representing the sound of growling, as by a dog or similar animal; (hence also in later use) expressing anger or (more usually) mock anger.
