Chiefly Botany.
1. Designating the surface of an organ, esp. a leaf, which during development initially faces away from the main axis or stem (usually the underside or outer surface); of or relating to such a surface; (formerly also) †designating that which is situated below the main axis (obsolete). Frequently opposed to adaxial. Cf. dorsal adj. 2b.
