Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French glycose.
Etymology: < French glycose (1855 or earlier), alteration (after ancient Greek γλυκύς sweet: see glyco- comb. form) of glucose glucose n. Compare earlier glucose n., and also German Glycose (1848, referring to French glycose, attributed to J.-B. Dumas; now usually Glykose).Quot. 1856 reports on a French paper. Sense 2 shows an extended use of sense 1.
