Etymology: < scientific Latin Monopneumonia (see quot. 1890 at sense A.; also called Monopneumona (Gill, 1893), Monopneumones (Haeckel, 1874 or earlier)), former group name ( < ancient Greek μονο- mono- comb. form + πνεύμων (see pneumono- comb. form) + scientific Latin -ia -ia suffix2) + -an suffix.
Zoology. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.

Of, relating to, or designating lungfishes of the former group Monopneumonia, comprising only the Australian lungfish Neoceratodus forsteri, which has a single lung (now placed in the order Ceratodontiformes and family Ceratodontidae).
