Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: geometry n., -ize suffix.
Etymology: < geometry n. + -ize suffix. In sense 1 after Middle French, French (rare) geometriser (1572 in past participle geometrisé in the passage cited in quot. 1603; now géométriser). Compare post-classical Latin geometrizare (6th cent., with variant geometriare), ancient Greek γεωμετρεῖν to practise or profess geometry.
