Etymology: < scientific Latin ancestrula < French ancestrule (both in J. Jullien Mission Scientifique du Cap Horn 1882–83 (1888) VI. iii. 27) < ancestre ancestor n. + -ule -ule suffix.
Zoology.
The single rounded zooid or zooecium by which a bryozoan colony is founded, formed by the metamorphosis of a sexually produced larva, and growing by asexual budding.
