Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French éveillé.
Etymology: < French éveillé, use as adjective of the past participle of éveiller to waken (c1100 in Old French) < post-classical Latin exvigilare (4th cent.), alteration (after classical Latin ex- ex- prefix1) of classical Latin ēvigilāre (see evigilate v.).
Obsolete.
Alert; full of vivacity or animation; (chiefly in metaphorical contexts) wide awake.
