单词 equip
释义

equipv.

/ɪˈkwɪp/
Forms: Also 1500s eskippe, esquippe, 1600s equippe, (1700s acquip), 1700s aphetic 'quip.
Etymology: < French équiper, esquiper (whence Spanish esquipar , Portuguese esquipar ), probably < Old Norse skipa to man (a vessel), fit up, arrange, probably < skip = ship n.1The French word in the sense ‘to equip’ is apparently not recorded before 16th cent.; but it must have existed much earlier, at least in Anglo-Norman and Norman French; compare Anglo-Norman eskipeson equipment (14th cent.) and medieval Latin eschipāre to man a vessel (M. Paris 13th cent.). The Old French esquiper, eschiper ‘to put or go on board a ship’, ‘to put out to sea’, is perhaps a different word, but must ultimately be < Old Norse or Old Saxon skip ship.
