Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: K n., leg n.
Etymology: < K n. + leg n., so called on account of the resemblance of a sufferer's legs to the shape of the letter, especially if only one knee is turned inwards (compare quot. 1842).With sense 1 compare the rare, but slightly earlier semantic parallel †X-leg and its probable model German X-Bein, usually in plural (both 1851 or earlier).
1. In singular and plural. A condition in which one or both of a person's knees are turned inwards, resulting in a noticeable gap between the feet when standing with the knees touching; = knock-knee n. Also (depreciative): a person affected with this condition. Now chiefly Nigerian English.
