Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: electro- comb. form, Greek νόμος.
Etymology: < electro- comb. form + ancient Greek νόμος law, rule (see nomos n.), after metronome n. Compare French électronome (1775 in an apparently isolated use). N.E.D. (1891) gives the pronunciation as (ĭle·ktronōum) /ɪˈlɛktrəʊnəʊm/.
Obsolete. rare.
