Etymology: < dys- prefix + -biosis comb. form. In sense 2 probably after German Dysbiose (1921 or earlier).
1. Biology. Life in difficult or unpleasant conditions. Obsolete. rare.

2. Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. Abnormality or imbalance of the microbial flora of the intestinal tract or other part of the body, esp. when considered as a causative or contributory factor in disease; an instance of this.
