Origin: A borrowing from French, combined with an English element. Etymons: French morceler , -ation suffix.
Etymology: < French morceler to divide into many pieces (see morcellate v.) + -ation suffix, probably after morcellated adj. Compare earlier morcellement n. and morselization n., and later morcellate v.
Division into many pieces; spec. (a) Surgery the action or process of breaking up a tumour, organ, etc., into small pieces, esp. in the course of excision; (b) historical the division of property or land (cf. morcellement n.).
