Etymology: < dis- prefix + apparel v., perhaps after Middle French desappareiller (French désappareiller) to undress (11th cent. in Old French; compare Anglo-Norman desaparailler, desapareiller to be scattered (12th cent.)).Compare Spanish desaparejar to unharness, unrig (13th cent.).
1. transitive. To undress (a person); to remove the clothes of, to strip. Also figurative. Obsolete.
