单词 demoniat
释义

demoniatadj.

Forms: late Middle English demoniate, 1600s demoniat.
Origin: Probably formed within English, by derivation. Etymon: demoniac adj.
Etymology: Probably a transmission error or (in quot. 1623) a typographical error for demoniac adj., perhaps partly by confusion with adjectives in -ate suffix2. Perhaps compare Old Occitan demoniat person possessed by the devil (14th cent.), Catalan †demoniat possessed by the devil (14th cent.), post-classical Latin daemoniata woman possessed by the devil (1476 in a continental source; rare).
Obsolete.
Demonic, devilish. Cf. demoniatic adj.
