[after French curvisérié (1837)] rare designating an arrangement of leaves on a stem in which the leaves are distributed along the stem in a curved line, so that no leaf is directly above any preceding one; cf. rectiserial adj.

Bravais divides, therefore, leaves considered in relation to their arrangements on the stem into two great classes : 1st, The curviserial (curvisériées), those which, never being capable of being brought back one above the other in a straight line, thus describe an indefinite curve.
1877 A. Silver Out. Elem. Bot. (rev. ed.) iii. 36 Instead of there being a number of perpendicular rows of leaves, from apex to base, the rows will be curved, hence the term curviserial which is applied to them.
