Etymology: < a- prefix6 + historicism n., after French anhistoricisme (1966 in the passage translated in quot. 1977, or earlier). Compare earlier ahistoric adj., ahistorical adj.
A tendency to be unconcerned with history or historical events, a lack of regard for history; spec. a system of thought or analysis which fails to view persons, texts, cultural phenomena, etc., within their historical context. Cf. historicism n., new historicism n.
