释义

agriefadv.

Forms: Middle English agreef, Middle English agref, Middle English agreff, Middle English agreue, Middle English agrief, Middle English ogrefe, 1500s agriefe.
Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Probably partly a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Probably partly a borrowing from French. Etymons: English on grief; French a gref.
Etymology: Probably partly (i) < on grief (compare to take on grief at grief n. 4b), with reduction of the first element (compare a prep.1, o at on prep. Compare grief adv.
