单词 methaemoglobin
释义

methaemoglobinmethemoglobinn.

Brit. /ˌmɛthiːməˈɡləʊbɪn/, /ˌmɛθiːməˈɡləʊbɪn/, U.S. /ˌmɛthiməˈɡloʊb(ə)n/
Forms: 1800s– methaemoglobin, 1800s– methemoglobin (chiefly U.S.).
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: meta- prefix, haemoglobin n.
Etymology: < meta- prefix + haemoglobin n., after German Methämoglobin (F. Hoppe-Seyler Handb. der physiol.- u. pathol.-chem. Analyse (1865) iii. 205).Hoppe-Seyler described methaemoglobin in Arch. f. pathol. Anat. u. Physiol. (1862) 23 446–9, but did not name it in this paper. The pronunciations with /t/ rather than /θ/, as well as reflecting the German pronunciation, perhaps owe their predominance to a desire to distinguish clearly between this name and the numerous chemical names formed with meth- meth- comb. form.
Biochemistry.
Any form of haemoglobin in which the iron of the haem groups is in the ferric (Fe3+) rather than the ferrous (Fe2+) state, and so is unable to bind and release oxygen. Also called ferrihaemoglobin.
