单词 | meth- |
释义 | meth-comb. form Chemistry and Pharmacology. Categories » Forming names of organic compounds or radicals with the sense ‘containing, derived from, or analogous to the methyl radical’, as methacrylic, methine. The letter sequence meth- appears in many drug names (e.g. methadone, methsuximide) representing methyl in the corresponding systematic name, but this generally reflects the process of contraction and rearrangement by which such names are formed, rather than the consistent use of an affix meth-; similar formations occur with me- (e.g. mebendazole, mecylamine), with met- (e.g. metformin, metopon), and possibly with methy- (in methysergide, though the source of the -y- in this word is unclear). The distinction is not clear-cut in the case of a drug which is a simple methyl derivative of another, as illustrated by methamphetamine. International standardization sometimes results in the alteration of meth- to met- (cf. Italian metile, Spanish, Portuguese metilo, Russian metil): see, e.g., metisazone at methisazone n.
