Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French citramalique.
Etymology: < French citramalique (in acide citramalique : 1864 in Ann. de chim. et de phys. (4th ser.) 1 490; < citra- + malique malic adj., after German Citramalsäure (L. Carius 1864, in Ann. der Chem. u. Pharm. 129 160; < Citra- (in Citraconsäure citraconic acid: see citraconic adj.) + Malsäure malic acid), with remodelling of the ending in English (see -ic suffix). Compare citratartaric adj. In form citromalic showing alteration after words in citro- comb. form.
